True Success

I feel now is the best time to comment on the amazing events of the weekend of the 18th and 19th August. For a number of reasons, I feel that it has been best to take some time to think about the true meaning of what happened in that Friends Provident final, and indeed what appears to be happening, without wishing to tempt fate, in the Championship and Pro40 competitions also.
Many things are written in the direct aftermath of events like this. I wanted a few weeks for it to sink in. Plus about now is the time when people have sobered up after the celebrations. Of course, I don’t mean the players, all being extremely professional, we had an early night and all thoughts were immediately on the next game.....unlikely…..on the first count anyway! No, I mean the supporters who have followed us, and specifically the hardy thousands who ventured down without being able to see us parade the trophy around the hallowed turf. It sounds clichéd but all the support really was and is wholly appreciated.
History in the Making

There are two dreams that anyone who has any sporting ability harbour at varying depths in their minds. No matter what the sport is, I am sure that these dreams are to represent your native country, (or indeed chosen country in today’s cricketing world,) and to play in a cup final.
Many careers have been defined by such moments. Having already experienced a Twenty20 Cup final’s day already I should count myself very lucky. However, I have a feeling that it will pale into insignificance when compared with the events that unfold on Saturday 18th August.

Throughout any one person’s life, there are moments that stick in the memory. Your first steps as a toddler, (ok perhaps that sticks more in your parents’ minds, as I certainly can’t remember this,) your first kiss, your first A (hopefully) at school, your first pay cheque, your first 10-for in an innings……..
Presumably everyone can say yes to most of these, except of course the magical 10 wicket haul, when every single batsman in the opposition team has succumbed to one inspired bowler.
Cricket and Life

Welcome to my blog. I am not going to include the customary introduction to me, myself and I, for fear of boring you at such an early stage. Instead what I will say is, for those of you who know who I am; you must pay too much attention to cricket matters; and for those of you who don’t, shame on you!
This blog is an attempt to be literate, concise, informative, and hopefully give anyone who cares to listen, a bit of an insight into the life of an honest (most of the time) professional cricketer, and what goes through my head. I will not pretend that this will be the same as what all cricketer’s think, as with any walk of life, we are all so very, very different!
